Of Dirt and Grace (Live from the land)

9320428320513Hillsong United released a new album today, July 15th 2016 named: of Dirt and Grace (Live from land).

We took Empires, and reimagined the songs on the very streets, hills, seas and mountains where their inspiration walked, talked and first established the Kingdom of Heaven… It’s a Visual Album, and I’d encourage you to see it as you hear it

Joel Houston

of Dirt and Grace (Live from the land) is a live recorded version of the album Empires and as bonus tracks 2 songs from the album Zion; Oceans (Where my feet may fail) and Scandal of Grace. And there is also one song from Hillsong Live; I Surrender. The songs on this new album were performed and filmed around various places in Israel and Lebanon to capture where the aforementioned events took place, just like other Biblically historical locations.

Prince of Peace was recorded Live in Israel from A Golan Heights Memorial Of War & By The Shining Lights of The Old City.

I honestly love this new album, Prince of Peace Live brought tears in my eyes just like the very first time I heard the studio version. This album can help people see and feel the meaning behind each song, Empires itself is a beautiful album; calm and encouraging. That they created  a live version of 12 songs from Empires that are so deep and captured in difrent places in Isreal and Lebanon, makes the message behind each song more powerfull.

IMG_9544This years theme was This Is Love. No matter if you’re down, feeling lonely or worthless. There is always someone who loves you more than your sins, fears or pain. His name is I Am, the alpha and omega; Our almighty God. He has great things prepared for you, you are never worthless.

This years EOJD was great, I honestly wanted to go because I wanted it to be a new tradition by going every year, though I found myself wanting to go for For King & Country. Besides For King & Country, the Beam-worship band was really good as well, I had a good time. Trinity came with its Spanish lyrics, Planetshakers well, made us shake away our shame to dance like complete fools and  LZ7 ended the night with a bang.

This year I went by train en met up with my step dad and little brother at the train station in Arnhem (it was freakishly hot, I wore black pants and brought a jacket!..), as we headed to the buses to go to EOJD we got these cute bracelets. We didn’t do much this year, I bought this amazing t-shirt with “Enjoy Jesus Christ thou shalt never thirst” on it , got a free bag and signed up to win a trip to somewhere in Africa to volunteer for summer 2017! We also got cotton candy and because I at too much sugary snacks that day, I fell a sleep as soon as my head touched my soft pillow.

To be really honest, I thought last year was more fun but that’s because It was my first time. I was just glad that this year I got to enjoy how many teens were exited to praise the lord, yelling in the over-full train of Christians, that was literally full of Christians I am not exaggerating. I didn’t have the courage to talk to any of them, I really wish I did, maybe next year though. I also hope that some of you went as well and had a really good time, that hopefully you walked out of that stadium with a changed heart!

Meet: Henrietta Harris

Meet Henrietta Harris,

Henrietta is an artist from New Zeeland, she graduated  in 2006 with a bachelor of Fine Arts from Auckland University of Technology. Henrietta uses watercolor and gouache to create beautiful, skilfully hand-drawn hands, faces and brains that seem to float away from each other. Her work appears in shows all over New Zealand, Australia, London and New York, on t-shirts, record covers and in print publications. Most of her work are portraits.

Her clients are: Vanity Fair (France), The Department Store (Auckland), Karen Walker, BITE Magazine, Flying Nun Records, VERAMEAT, Coffee Supreme (New Zealand), Ruby (New Zealand), and many more.

I love her work the first one I saw was as usual on Tumblr. It was a new kind of painting to me; timeless and thought-provoking. It makes me wonder what kind of story was hiding behind the floating body parts and hidden features. Such Beautiful art.

Meet Alessia Caracciolo, better known as Alessia Cara. A 19 years old R&B and Pop singer from Brampton, Ontario Canada.

When Alessia was 10 she started playing guitar and taught herself how to play various songs. Around the age of 13 she began her own YouTube channel where she posted covers of songs like Sweater Weather by The Neighborhood, Mirrors by Justin Timberlake, Every time You Lie by Demi Lovato etc.

She is signed to Def Jam Recordings in 2015 at the age of 18, on April 2015 Alessia released her first debut single ‘Here’. Later it became Billboard’s “20 Pop Songs You Need For Your Summer Playlist” in June 2015.

Alessia released an EP called Four Pink Walls with five songs on it, including her debut single “Here”. And her first debut album Know-It-All was released on November 13, 2015.

“As a kid I would always be in my bedroom constantly staring at the same four pink walls in it, aspiring to do all of these things. I had big dreams, and my dreams were bigger than what my life was at the time. I didn’t understand why my life wasn’t more interesting, but I was so oblivious to life outside of my bedroom because I was always there. I had to go about living my dreams.

Alessia has a beautiful voice, a really beautiful voice that I enjoy listing to. I have heard the acoustic version of  one of her singles “I’m Your’s” a thousand times! I can’t wait to hear more from.

We Were Liars

16143347‘Thrilling, beautiful, and blisteringly smart, We Were Liars is utterly unforgettable.’  – John Green

“We live, at least in the summertime, on a private island off the coast of Massachusetts.

Perhaps that is all you need to know.”

We Were Liars by  e. Lockhart has an ending you would never expect.

A trilling and dark tragedy. A story that won’t leave your mind, a catching story from beginning to end that will leave you in tears.

Tipper and Harris Sinclair live in Boston and have 3 daughters: first-born Penny, second Carrie and third Bess.  Candace Sinclair Eastman is the daughter of Penny Sinclair Eastman,  Tipper and Harris Sinclair’s fist granddaughter, and they live in Burlington, Vermont. Johnny Sinclair Dennis is the son  of Carrie Sinclair Dennis, the second grandson, and they live in New York City. Mirren Sinclair Sheffield is the daughter of Bess Sinclair Sheffield, the third granddaughter, and they live in Cambridge. And then there is Gat Patil, Johnny’s best friend and Ed’s nephew; Carrie Sinclair’s husband.

All four of them were called the liars. They are nearly the same age and most years on the island, they’ve been trouble.

we-were-liars-map

Each year they went to their grandfathers island, Beechwood to spend the summer with their families. Something happened in summer 15,  something so tragic no one wants to talk about.

But After all, they were the beautiful Sinclair family. No one is a criminal. No one is an addict. No one is a  failure. No one is needy. No one is wrong.

This book took my breath away, I finished reading with tears in my eyes, it was so vivacious. Writers such as John Green, Maureen Johnson and Robin Wasserman who talked about the book weren’t exaggerating. It is a real page turner, beautiful, terrifyingly smart, sad, wonderful etc.

Hi guys, I hope everyone is enjoying January and is having a splendid 2016.

I present to you a new brand: Jump From Paper. Some of you may know these amazing 2D bags from lookbooks, Tumblr or Instagram through 2014 and 2015.

This brand is Anime-inspired and designed by quirky “Kids of the Internet Age” (as the JumpFromPaper website said itself). Created by Taiwanese designers; Chay Su and Rika Lin. Jump From Paper is a modern Taipei-based fashion accessory brand found in 2010.

The Jump From Paper bags are bold cartoon and graphic illustrations that actually look like they “jump from paper” and there are many different styles. The collections include backpacks, wallets and bags that encourages you to let out your imagination!

At first I thought it was a cartoon bag Photoshoped on someone’s body, but it’s 100% real! (how amazing) This is one of the creative bags I have ever seen so far and I looooove it. It’s easy for carrying around some documents and laptop on a short school day or to hang out with your friends.

Hillsong United – Say The Word

“Say the word and there is light, say the word and dead bones rise. Every start and end hangs on your voice, for Your word never returns void.”

Do you ever just listen to music and get the chills, you haven’t heard the  lyrics yet but something powerful has come over you. Love screaming out the speakers, every emotion was triggered.

I imagine the skies when I listen to this song, the beautiful stars glisten and the night supporting their shine. This song means so much to me because, no matter how many times I listen to the lyrics I get the chills, even before I started listing and didn’t knew the words. I felt an indescribable feeling.

“…Hanging on every word that You’ve spoken, and it will not be shaken. Clinging for life to all Your promise.”

A promise made before we started living, and once we leave everything behind and start trusting in his promise, it is something life changing. We have to hang on and believe and trust in Gods work.

  • Released: 26 May 2015
  • Label: Hillsong, Sparrow, Capital CMG

#4 |Paper Towns The Movie

“As Long As We Don’t Die, This Is Gonna Be One Hell Of A Story.”

– John Green, Paper Towns

I was very lucky to see Paper Towns in theater, because I almost couldn’t!

It was still a good movie though and the producers did a great job! It was funny and romantic, everything about this movie was about first time doing things. I loved Radar even more after seeing the movie, he’s so nerdy and sweet, Ben was less sexist in the movie than in the book, he’s the kind of friend you want to have around when you need a good laugh, Quintin was super cute, being shy and all of a sudden extra confident. And Margo well Margo is a paper girl for a paper town. Their friendship is special, it’s that kind of friendships you can look back to and think about the wicked things you’ve done in high school.  We see Quintin grow into a more confident person after his special night with Margo. We see Chuck Parson get punished for  what he’d done in a less painful way than I imagined, Lacy’s car getting wrapped up in foil and we see Margo’s ex run naked across the street.

First road trip, almost dying, prom, first party, weird drunk Ben, love and singing the Pokemon while being scared. The characters were amazing! The directors of Paper Towns made sure your high school memories were placed in this movie, for you to remember that life is short and friendships is more valuable than gold. You should enjoy every single moment of your life, let your heart beat faster and do things out of your little comfort zone.

I loved to see the black Santa’s in Radars house! I really thought there would be more and I was hoping that Angela could seen them.

There had been some changes that really upset me, because Margo and Quintin didn’t go to Sea World (seriously!??) and that almost made me cry. But it was friendship/doing things for the last or the first time  kind of movie, which I adore but this one was special because we see self growth, acceptance, friendship and love. I had been waiting for this movie ever since I finished the book, and I must say besides the changes it was a wonderful movie!

The Great Gastby

After reading To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee in February (my first litterateur!) I noticed that I have a thing for old books too, even though it’s a little difficult for me to read I enjoy reading books like these, and I try to re-read what I don’t understand.

I decided to watch the movie The Great Gastby first and I loved it. Love, love, love. It is a great love story.

Mr. Gastby was a mysterious millionaire  who threw huge parties from 9 am to way past midnight and everyone was invited. There were a lot of different stories about who he might have been and where all his money came from. Mr. Gastby was Nick Carraway’s neighbor who lived in West Egg, and on the other side of the bay across from Nick Carraway’s house lived Nicks beautiful cousin Daisy with her husband, Tom Buchanan.

Why did Mr. Gastby throw these massive parties ? Everyone attended to enjoy beautiful Jazz music, champagne, the colored lights, saxophones and violins. Cornets and piccolos, and low and high drums.

Nick was also cut between dark secrets from almost everyone he knew Tom, Daisy, Gastby. Everyone believed the lies that had been told  and was written in the papers, but the only ones who knew the truth couldn’t speak as loud as the media and the rest swallowed the truth or ended  living in a cruel way.

“..it was an extraordinary gift for hope, a romantic readiness such as I have never found in any other person which is not likely I shall ever find again. No – Gastby turned out all right at the end; it is what preyed on Gastby, what foul dust floated in the wake of his dreams that temporarily closed out my interest in the abortive sorrows and short-winded elation for men.”

One of the greatest novels from the 20th century, classic of American literature  following from the First World War. A must read for classic & romantic book readers.

Meet: Melanie Martinez

Meet Melanie Martinez,

a 20 years old indie pop and alternative rock singer/songwriter and photographer from Baldwin, New York.

Melanie was one of the members in Adam’s team in the third season of The Voice and was eliminated in the fifth week of:

“I didn’t expect to get this far and this is beyond what I’ve dreamed of. I’m just glad I got to express who I am as an artist and really touch people’s hearts because that was the ultimate goal.”

After the show she started working on original songs. She is now signed to Atlantic Records and on April 22, 2014 she released her single ‘Dollhouse’. On May 19, 2014 Melanie released her debut EP Dollhouse. And that’s not all, on August 14, 2015 Melanie’s first album will be released titled Cry baby.

Some of you may know Melanie from her song carousel that was featured in American Horror Story: Freak Show.

Melanie Martinez is a unique person, I love the way she expresses herself through her music. As a crazy Pretty Little Liars fan I sometimes watch theories on YouTube and often there’s a song playing in the background; Carousel. So I got used to it and I decided to look up the lyrics and that’s when I found Melanie Martinez! Going through some of her music and ‘Pity Party’ became on of my favorite songs and was released on June 1, 2015.

P.s. I Still Love You

After finishing To All The Boys I’ve Love Before everything changed. What happened between Lara Jean and Peter? How about the last letter is it really gone? Or what about Margot and Josh? Yeah, when those questions hit you hard you know there’s a sequel coming. P.S. I Still Love You is the sequel to To All The Boys I’ve Love Before by Jenny Han.

I can’t give you much detail, but something or someone will be back and change everything. From innocent love letters to a secret crush confession Lara Jean has to choose between two guys. She didn’t expect to really fall in love with the guy who always ate the last pizza without asking a.k.a Peter. In this sequel we go back in time and read how things started, old memories will be brought up, Margot is back for Christmas, there will even be romantic dancing in the snow, a social media disaster, even more baking and an even sassier Kitty. Also the girls think it’s finally time for their dad to start dating, they make a profile on a dating site without him know that, how will this turn out? Something tells me there’s another book on its way because this story definitely didn’t feel finished.

P.S. I Still Love you by the one and only Jenny Han!

EO-Jongerendag ’15

I got a lot of catching up to do on posting some post but first things first, EO-Jongerendag! In a full stadium  with Christians my age, I never been more happy and praised to lord as I did that day with lots of people surrounding me.

There were lots of things to do outside, around the stadium; play games, climb, sing on stage, talk and pray, buy CD’s etc. And then at 13:30, when we finally found our seats it was show time!

EO-Jongerendag was amazing! It started out with counting down, people were dancing on the different stages and someone was rapping  a song. While dancing and rapping,
Eric Samuel Tim; Artists, author and orator was painting something beautiful on a canvas.

Royal Tailor was great for their first time in Holland, not much people knew who they were but what counts is that we jumped and danced, celebrating Gods love. Draw The Parade, Switchfoot and Hillsong Young and Free were also there. I did not know Draw the parade and it was the first time I heard of them, they were kind of cool (their lead singer is actually cute). Their music gave me a circus feeling as if life was a huge event, were you follow people to the destination were Jesus will be waiting for you and while your own your way you get to celebrate and be crazy.  But when you finally arrive that’s when the party will starting for real! Switchfoot sure knows what rock music is, I didn’t like the first songs but when Jon Foreman went of stage, he sang some beautiful songs that made me sit quiet and listen and move to the rhythm.

And then there was a break and there wasn’t much I could do from where we were, and my mom didn’t want to lose my so my little brother and I got our free Beam sweater and later I decided to get Royal Tailor’s signature! And I got it muhaha (excuse my weirdness) I only got three but that’s okay I’m happy though, isn’t Tauren cute? Okay back to the subject.

IMG_5170

Hillsong Young & Free ended the day with a bang! I was so happy to see them and I had this big fat smile after the show because of them. Their worship songs really hit me and there was one in specific I didn’t know but loved so much; End of Days. the lyrics “I will sing until my voice won’t let me” made cry tears of happiness, I may be a rookie singer but I sure won’t stop when I’m signing for our God. Between the performances of Switchfoot and Hillsong Young & Free, it was Eric Samuels Timm’s turn to speak, he was talking about an umbrella. That God may be out umbrella in every situation. Did I also mention the Beam-worship band!? My mom seriously was happy to hear some familiar songs  and they were definitely great!

I enjoyed every bit of E0-Jongerendag , I could write every detail but I guess you could also see it for yourself! I left some details out because it was literally  to much, If some of you were there I hope you had fun and if you were not, hopefully you’ll be there next year and If not you could always watch it online! unfortunately I couldn’t find the second half of the show were Switchfoot, Eric Samuel Timm, Beam-worship band and Hillsong Young & Free were on stage only parts of them. I’m so sorry I wish you guys could see it to, but as soon as I find it I will add it to this post.

Meet for King & Country, a Christian pop band by the  Australia-American brothers Joel and Luke Smallbone in 2007. In 2012 their debut record Crave, received much love and they were named as “New Artists To Watch” by Billboard for 2012.

personally my favorite song is Shoulders, it’s a newer song and it touched my heart. I just love it and the video clip fits the song perfectly, I even got goosebumps because of their voices!

Laura Callaghan Illustration

Let me start with this: I adore weird/ different things like fashion, drawings, illustrations and art. I’m obsessed with the colors blue, pink or anything neon and old school-like. While scrolling through my dashboard on Tumblr I came across this illustration by Laura Callaghan, and I loved it!

This and many others were illustrated by Laura Callaghan, an Irish illustrator in South East London. She graduated with an MA in Illustration from Kingston University in 2010. Her work is hand illustrated with a mixture of watercolour, indian ink and the smallest pens she can get her hands on. Some of her clients are: UrbanOutfitters, NYLON Magazine, Book Club London, Visit Dublin etc.

Laura Callaghan was also the Illustration Editor for Oh Comely Magazine from 2010 – 2013.

Fun fact about Laura is that 90% of her wardrobe is black while her illustrations show more color, her illustrations conclude wild back stories based on the complicated details, vivid colors, and bold facial expressions in each illustration. Laura Callaghan draws sixteen hours a day, from Monday through Friday. She has been assigned for wall painting, menus, and advertisements. I must say (write) that Laura Callaghan is now favorite illustrator! (She even makes comics)

What To Pack For EO-Jongerendag ?

EO-Jongerendag is a christian event in The Netherlands, of course everyone is welcome not just Christians though. EO-Jongerendag takes place in Arnhem, once a year around summer we get to see christian bands, play funny games, worship, meet new people and have fun, and not to forget praise the one this big event is all for. Our God.

Let’s see, this isn’t just an event. It is going to be spectacular and not like anything you’ve ever seen.. so what are we going to bring?

  1. Bring all the energy you have! I’m sure it’s going to be a lot of fun with all that jumping and screaming, haha.
  2. Hope, bring hope it’s a good thing. Hope that after the show you’ll go home with a changing heart full of faith and love.
  3. Your bible, I don’t thing you should just bring it because of a Christian event. Your bible is a very important weapon to defied the evil.
  4.  A camera to capture every beautiful moment. (A smartphone is also an option)
  5. Comfy clothes, like sneakers instead of sandals and a loose shirt in case you get sweaty.
  6. A backpack or a simple shopper bag to put all your stuff in it.
  7. Food, I bet the food there is kind of expensive so it is always important to bring some snacks with you, and don’t forget your water.
  8. A notebook, maybe it’s just me but I always bring my notebook with me no matter where I go. It’ll be useful to write down the phone numbers of the people you met and or signatures from your favorite band. (:
  9. Your knowledge of every song so you can sing along haha, so study the bands before you go!
  10. Company, bring a friend or a family member because this event will touch hearts, I’m pretty sure!

I am so exited to go, this will be my first time (finally)  and I couldn’t be happier.  God bless you all and I hope some of you are also coming to this awesome event.
